Is Anyone Out There??

Just wondering if anyone is actually participating in the BOTM Club anymore... it's been awhile since I've seen any activity on either this blog or the facebook page, and although our End of the Month Book Club Meeting is fast-approaching, I haven't heard any feedback from anyone on the date or time, or if anyone is even interested in having it... or really, if anyone other than myself and Lauren (and Kevin too) even read the April/May BOTM at all...

*crossing fingers and hoping the revamp wasn't all for naught*

End of the Month Meeting!

Hey guys! That time is fast-approaching, and will be here before we know it! I hope everyone has been enjoying this month's "Book of the Month", The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.

As promised with the club's relaunch, we will be holding an end of the month book discussion and club meeting, most likely on:

Saturday, May 30th

at:

Borders Cafe, Altamonte Springs, FL

The time has yet to be determined. If you're interesting in participating, please let us know in the comments below or on the club's facebook page. If you do plan to attend, let us know what time would be best for you and we will try to work around everyone's schedule to find a time that everyone can make.

As always, if you can't make the meeting, we'll be sure to post a re-cap on the discussion boards at the club's facebook page.

Anyway, I know that I'm personally quite excited about our very first post-relaunch meeting, and look forward to seeing everyone there!

New Month - Same Book

As you know by now, we're continuing The Time Traveler's Wife into this month. I'm just checking in to see how everyone is doing. Are you enjoying the book? Loving it? Hating it? Feel free to discuss either here on the blog or at the facebook page!

Even though it's a month away, we should start thinking about a) a day for the in person meeting and b) a theme for it. Do we want it to be cooking friendly? Dress up? Activity oriented? Where do we want it to be? All suggestions are helpful! So let us know what you're thinking.

Also, if you haven't bought the book yet, or if you're already done and thinking of starting next month's book, Borders has a 40% off coupon for today and tomorrow. Use it!

Extension!

Hey everyone! Just a quick head's up that April's BOTM "The Time Traveler's Wife" is going to be extended into May's BOTM as well!

The reason for this is two-fold - since the book wasn't even selected until halfway through the month of April, many of you are probably just getting around to acquiring it, let alone reading it. Also, since we are trying to start things fresh here at the Book of the Month Club, we would love the revamp to get off to a strong start! So we want to give everyone the opportunity to read the book and attend our discussion at the end of the month (which will now be the end of May).

This means that "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" will be pushed into our June BOTM spot, and "Angels & Demons" will be our July book.

If you haven't already, please go out and get your copy of "Time Traveler's Wife" - we would love everyone to participate!

The Time Traveler's Wife

As we all start the new book, here are some helpful/interesting links:

The author's (very weird) website
A reading guide. (Note: There's also one at the end of the book. Not that I got there, but you know I flipped to the end already.)
Some reviews
An interview with B&N (also includes her reading list and favorite inspirational book.)
An interview on bookslut (which is a fabulous website regardless of their name.)

Why not trade books?

Have you heard of BookMooch or PaperBack Swap? The sites are incredibly cool! After creating a profile, list all of the books that you own that you'd like to give away. Other members can then look at your profile and request books that you own. If they want it, it's theres! All you have to do is pay for postage and ship it off to them. So why does this benefit you? Basically, for every book you send off, you can receive a free book! Once you earn one point (send off one book) you can then search their databases and find a book you want, which you will then get for free.

Neat, right? It's a cool way to recycle old books that you don't want and gain new ones. Just wanted to let you all know!

Oh, and don't forget about bookcrossing which is still one of my favorite sites!

More Savings!

To piggyback off of Lauren's previous post, here are a few more ways to save on this month's book:

- A 30% off Borders coupon, good through the 19th of this month!

and

- A 40% off Barnes & Noble coupon, good through the 20th of this month (this coupon is specifically for our JUNE book, "Angels & Demons", so with the coupon, get your copy early and save!)

Also, some of you have inquired about the use of local libraries. This is a great option if you don't want to go out and buy the book to own (although I gotta say, I'm kind of addicted to expanding my ever-growing book collection).

I found this really great website that lists public libraries by county - just select the state you live in, and navigate from there!

Anyway, keep your eye out for news on our upcoming meeting, at the end of this month! And in the meantime, enjoy reading our April book of the month!

Where to buy books

Since times are rough on all of us, here are some places to purchase this month's book at a cheaper price than at a bookstore:

At Amazon it's $9.72 new, and as low as $1.97 used.

At Half it's as low as $1.97 used.

At Overstock it's $9.62 new.

I'm sure there are other places online to purchase the books, but those are the sites i've used in the past. Don't forget there's a shipping charge with each.

For Borders, here's a 20% off coupon

For local cheaper prices, don't forget about used book stores and library book sales. If you have a library by you that sells books, paperbacks are usually around 50 cents to a dollar. And, of course, there's always USING the library. This book is extremely popular so even if it's not in stock, it will be soon after putting it on hold.

If you have any other suggestions, let me know!
